Hello, this is Jovan Corrales, writing his first blog post for the new website. I will admit, this is an odd endeavor for me, given my very lacking online presence, at least under my actual name. I think the inly things you will find if you were to search for my name would be some stuff from my time in college, my thesis, a LinkedIn account, and maybe an old Facebook account that I forgot the password to and can’t delete.

Regardless, I made this website as a way to better show off and talk about the things I want to in a way that I have more control over than on other forms of social media while being easier to direct people to when I want to show something off. I could have used something like Linktree to do so, but a list of links doesn’t really do a whole lot for the purposes of showing things off. Beyond that, centering my presence onto various social media platforms tend to have some concerns for me. For example, the site formerly known as Twitter, is basically a strange and nightmarish place that I abandoned having an anonymous account on years ago, let alone with some of the controversies that it is currently involved in. It and Bluesky also share the issue of posts with a very low character limit, which can cause communication issues and other problems. Reddit ant Tumblr, at least for my situation, share the same issue on not being that professional, with Reddit also not being good at showcasing people’s work in an organized way. Facebook has always been a website that people use to stay connected with others, such as family, and as such does not really fit well in terms of what I will be writing about. And LinkedIn, while possibly workable, does tend to emphasize a mindset that I don’t like, and I am not trying to be a thought leader or anything of the sort. I just want an easy and straightforward way to write about what I am doing and can show others without too much issue. I will likely be posting when I write such posts onto LinkedIn and possibly in the future Bluesky, but that is for later consideration.

Now, some of you might be wondering how difficult would it be to make a website, and the answer to that is not that difficult. Granted, part of this, for me at least, is a combination of already having taken two programming courses back in college and having a guide to do so, that being Blake Watson’s HTML for the People, which was where I learned basically everything relating to making this website and have just linked to. Check it out if you want to do something similar. Also, much like my previous coding experiences, a good IDE like Visual Code Studio is also very helpful.

Well, that is all I really wanted to say for now. I will probably be posting something in the near future relating to a topic I find interesting and relates to a number of my own areas of interest, but until then, see you.
